What is virtualisation?
Virtualisation consolidates hardware devices in to a logical, software controlled environment.
Server virtualisation aims to consolidate a number of servers to a single machine. This is usually a good solution for businesses running several separate servers yet not managing to fill any of them to full capacity. Imagine having ten separate servers each running at 10% capacity, a business owner may have invested in these servers historically to keep them separate for different uses. Today, with virtualisation, this doesn’t need to happen, it is possible to run 10 virtual servers off of one single server, leaving less wasted resource.
The end result is that businesses can treat each virtual server as if it was a stand-alone entity and interact with it as such, while still reaping the benefits of cutting down on costs for hardware, energy consumption, and maintenance.
